HBO Max (Max) has shared with us the trailer for "Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai," an animated 3DCG prequel to the Gremlins film series, which will be released on May 23 only on Max. The series is written and executive produced by Tze Chun, featuring the voices of Izaac Wang, Ming-Na Wen, BD Wong, James Hong, Matthew Rhys, A.J. Locascio, Gabrielle Green, and Zach Galligan.

The series tells the story of how Sam Wing, a 10-year-old boy, meets a young Mogwai called Gizmo, in 1920s Shanghai. In order to send Gizmo back to his home, Sam embarks on a journey through the Chinese countryside and meets Elle, a teenage street thief on the way. Together, they encounter and sometimes battle with a variety of monsters and spirits. During this difficult journey, they are also pursued by the evil Gremlins army led by a power-hungry industrialist.
