On November 7, 2024, Foundry, a prominent developer of creative software for the media and entertainment sectors, revealed its decision to cease the development of its 3D modeling tool, Modo, following the release of Modo 17.1 later this year. This strategic move allows Foundry to now concentrate on its core products and invest in innovative solutions that cater to the evolving demands of the media and entertainment industry.
Additional Information
Customer Support
Current users of Modo will continue to receive support until their existing contracts expire. Additionally, they can secure an extended license for 10 years, enabling them to keep using Modo in the future.
Future Operating System Updates
Modo may still operate on future operating systems but cannot guarantee compatibility since no patches or updates will be provided. Foundry recommends that customers transition to alternative 3D workflows as soon as possible.
Operation of Modo Downloads, Documentation, Forums, and Support Channels
The operation will remain available until November 2025, after that it will be retired. The Modo forums will be accessible until December 2024.
Modo License Transfer
Customers with active maintenance or subscriptions have received an email detailing how to obtain a transferable extended license. Inactive customers or those who did not receive this email can reach out to Foundry to request a license transfer.
