Fabricio Moraes has over twenty years of experience in the CG industry, during which he has refined his skills through a wide range of projects, including game character development and advertising animations. He also gained recognition by placing 4th in the Kinetic Rush Challenge, highlighting his innovative techniques and artistic vision. In this interview with Fox Renderfarm, a leading cloud rendering services provider and render farm in the industry, Fabricio discusses his creative journey, the inspirations for his award-winning work, and his aspirations for the future of his projects in the 3D realm.
Fox Renderfarm: Hi Fabricio! We are honored to have you here! Please introduce yourself first to our readers.
Fabricio: I am a 3D generalist with over twenty years of experience. I've worked on various projects, such as game character development, illustration and animation for advertising, game cinematics and trailers, etc. For the past twelve years, I have been a partner of Gingerpic Studio.
Fox Renderfarm: Congratulations on winning 4th place in the Kinetic Rush Challenge! Can you tell us about your journey leading up to this achievement? What inspired you to participate in the challenge?
Fabricio: Last year, I traveled to Japan with my wife. While visiting one of the temples in Tokyo, I saw a huge statue in front of the entrance. The statue felt alive, which was the core idea of my animation. I took visual inspiration from the game Black Myth Wukong.

Fox Renderfarm: In the context of 'Kinetic Rush,' what particular elements or concepts motivated you to develop your piece? How did you link your idea to the overarching theme?
Fabricio: The parkour theme made me think of a risk-and-reward situation filled with chaos. My goal was to create a scenario in which someone barely makes it to their objective—a chaotic journey that ultimately works out.

Fox Renderfarm: Did you draw inspiration from any specific artists, genres, or styles when creating this project? How did they influence your work?
Fabricio: Since my main inspiration is from Japanese culture, I was motivated to use an Asian-themed animation. Researching different kinds of temple statues from Japan, China, and Thailand helped me to understand the path to follow.
Fox Renderfarm: How did your initial concept differ from the final product? What changes did you make during the creation process?

Fabricio: I had a clear idea of what I wanted to create from the beginning, so the final product was similar to the original concept. My first thought was to make only one statue chasing the runner. After he passes through the huge door, he would get into the temple corridor instead of a big ancient city. These were the biggest differences from the original concept.
Fox Renderfarm: Were there any specific artistic choices or animation techniques that you experimented with for this project?
Fabricio: In this project, I tried a few new things for my workflow, like cloth simulation in Marvelous Designer and Unreal Chaos simulation for destruction.
Fox Renderfarm: Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently during the challenge? What lessons did you take away from the experience?
Fabricio: This animation was much more challenging than my previous projects. I had to create two full-body characters, and despite using the available animation for the main character, I had to animate two others from scratch. If I had to start over, I wouldn’t have done anything differently, but I would probably have taken less time using what I learned about cloth and destruction simulation.
Fox Renderfarm: Have you tried or heard about Fox Renderfarm’s services before? What is your impression of our cloud rendering services?
Fabricio: Yes, I’ve known about Fox Renderfarm services for a while now. It’s been a huge project saver. It was often impossible for me to render a full animation locally, and the investment and maintenance involved in having my own render farm just wasn’t worth it. So, for me, an online render farm service is the best solution.
Fox Renderfarm: What are your future goals in this field? Do you plan to participate in more 3D challenges?
Fabricio: I would love to participate in these challenges again someday. It has been a great experience. My current goal is to expand my working capabilities by venturing into other industries, such as game cinematics and virtual production.
