Fox Renderfarm: Hi, Crimson Violet Productions! Thank you so much for accepting our interview! Could you please introduce yourself to our readers?
Crimson Violet Productions: My name is Cam Laxton, an 18-year-old who started using Blender in 2020 when I had nothing better to do. I’ve always been fascinated by filmmaking and art, and 3D animation is something I found instantly compelling. I’m also a film director, and I make short movies with my friends.
Fox Renderfarm: It's fantastic to see your work being recognized as one of the Top 100 in the Internet’s Largest 3D Challenge "Kinetic Rush"! Could you briefly introduce the work that you brought to the challenge?
Crimson Violet Productions: It’s an edgy take on the Star Wars universe, taking place sometime during the original trilogy. This type of dark, atmospheric art is what I specialize in.
Fox Renderfarm: Within the context of "Kinetic Rush," what specific elements or ideas inspired you to create your piece? How did you connect your concept to the overall theme?
Crimson Violet Productions: My main inspirations were the cinematic cutscenes of the Old Republic video games, as well as the Force Unleashed games. I wanted to embrace the dark, action-driven nature of these games in my render, as I feel it matches the idea of a "Kinetic Rush".
Fox Renderfarm: Can you describe the animation pipeline for this project? How did you manage the workflow from the initial concept to the final render?

Crimson Violet Productions: I went through a few different settings before coming up with the final vision (at first a beach environment, then a desert, then the rocky landscape of the final product). I started with the lighting and overall mood of the scene, before moving on to the animation of the main character. I figured if I got these out of the way, I could worry about surrounding details later. After I worked out the main blocking and movement of the shot, I spent the rest of the time fine-tuning the environment, lighting, background characters, and color grading up until the deadline.

Fox Renderfarm: Were there any specific artistic choices or animation techniques that you experimented with or innovated for this project?
Crimson Violet Productions: I’ve never dealt with cloth simulations as intricate as the ones on the main character. Also, I used some non-traditional lighting techniques to make the silhouettes stand out more.
Fox Renderfarm: Are there specific natural elements or artists that consistently inspire your work? How do these influences manifest in your creations?
Crimson Violet Productions: Ian Hubert comes to mind as an inspiration. The way his works are so detailed yet never overwhelming is amazing to me. His creativity is something I aspire to come close to one day.
Fox Renderfarm: Were there any alternative versions or compositions you considered before settling on this final piece?

Crimson Violet Productions: Yes, at one point the scene took place on Geonosis, a desert planet.
Fox Renderfarm: What was the most challenging aspect of creating "Star Wars", and how did you overcome it?
Crimson Violet Productions: Time management. I was constantly worried that I would finish the animation, but not have enough time to actually render it. The final render took around 15 hours. To combat this, I set a personal deadline for a few days before the actual deadline, giving myself time to finish and then render it.
Fox Renderfarm: Have you had any experience with Fox Renderfarm's cloud rendering services in the past? If you have, what is your opinion of our cloud rendering offerings?
Crimson Violet Productions: I haven’t had any experience with render farm.
Fox Renderfarm: What advice would you offer to aspiring 3D artists entering competitions like Kinetic Rush?
Crimson Violet Productions: Don’t quit after the first one. Chances are you won’t get in the top 100 first try. This is my second render challenge, and I feel extremely lucky to be in the top 100. It may take ten challenges, but keep at it. There’s no such thing as losing in these challenges, so just keep on trying.
Thanks again to Crimson Violet Productions for accepting our interview! Wishing new heights in you and your team’s professional career!
